Becoming a Sport Marketing SIG member

The Academy of Marketing’s regulations concerning SIG membership are:
  • Membership in the Sport Marketing Special Interest Group shall include all AM members who indicate a desire to join at the time of initiating or renewing their annual AM membership. In addition, membership should be expanded internationally, in accordance with the goals of the SIG, to encourage wider participation. Non-AM member scholars/practitioners can become affiliated members (i.e., non-voting members) of the SIG. Those invited should contact the SIG Chair with the name of the AM inviting member. Affiliated membership status for each non-AM international scholar/practitioner will be granted for a period of one year (renewable), beginning in July of each year. However, affiliated membership with an AM SIG does not include membership into the Academy of Marketing, or the benefits thereof.

STUDENT SPORT SPONSORSHIP COMPETITION ANNOUNCED

The business of sport has developed into a significant economic sector in Germany and in Europe in recent years. In the process, sport sponsorship has become a vital instrument of communication for many companies.

However, in comparison to the world of classical advertising, sport sponsorship still demonstrates significant shortcomings with regard to aspects such as professionalism and transparency. As one of the market leaders in the sports communications research sector, SPORT+MARKT AG would like to assist in addressing these shortcomings with the aid of science.

For this purpose, the European Sport Sponsorship Award (ESSA) has been created.

The basic concept of ESSA is the promotion of young academics in the area of sports sponsorship in cooperation with renowned European institutes of further education and their professors.

Further information is available from either Simon Chadwick (Sport Marketing SIG leader) or from Marco Tillack at Sport+Markt AG

THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SPORT MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING

The International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing is planning a special issue on Managing Sport Businesses in a Complex Environment. See its Call for Papers website for details.
